carpet beater

EXHIBITION
The carpet beater is an icon.
In Israel, it connects to our childhood memories and our material culture.
Over the years, Its use is decreasing, but its charm of simplicity remains.
The beater carry autobiography of craft and materials that once defined it,
and tells a story of formal transformation, intergenerational changes in
production methods, our attitude as a society to time and usefulness,
and our desire to cherish the simple objects and crafts.
In the series I created, I asked questions that helped me examine
the ancient charm of the beater:
What's the choreography that accompanies it?
where and how do we display it? What materials characterize it?
And what happens when you change the relationship within it?
How long and how short? Wide or narrow ?
What material is each part made of? How durable is it?
What is the aesthetic that characterizes it?
Which elements do not impair its function, and what leaves it only as an icon.
Mostly I tried to create from a primitive, instinctive, simple place ,
just like the beater.
